Leading the Change in Sustainability
At Community Choice Foundation, we recognize students who transform their passions into meaningful action—those who use their drive for learning to create a better world. This year, we proudly award our scholarship to Uma Ludwig from Warren, an exceptional scholar whose dedication to environmental sustainability and service sets a remarkable example.
As valedictorian of Centerline High School with a 4.5 GPA, Uma has distinguished herself academically, balancing rigorous coursework between her STEM program in Macomb and college-level classes at Macomb Community College. Yet her ambitions extend far beyond the classroom. With a steadfast commitment to environmental science, she has always envisioned a future in sustainability, leading her to Michigan Technological University, where she will pursue a degree in Environmental Engineering.
Her goals are rooted in impact. She plans to conduct water research and eventually serve as a chief sustainability officer, helping corporations implement practices that protect and preserve the environment. But her commitment to sustainability isn’t just an aspiration—it’s already in motion. As both an Eagle Scout and a Girl Scout Gold Award recipient, her service projects have left a lasting mark: she built a greenhouse for a nonprofit food bank in southwest Detroit, increasing access to fresh produce, and installed crating stations at five state parks, reducing litter and encouraging responsible environmental stewardship.
