Meet Malik Jarrell-Miller

2025 Scholarship Recipient

One of 25 awarded a Community Choice scholarship for leading with purpose.

A Visionary in Action

At Community Choice Foundation, we seek scholars who embody leadership, innovation, and an unwavering commitment to uplifting their communities. Among this year’s applicants, Malik Jarrell-Miller from Detroit stood out—not only for his academic achievements but for his passion for inspiring others to dream bigger.

Born and raised in Detroit, Malik’s journey has been shaped by ambition and perseverance. As a first-generation college student at Wayne State University, he has set his academic focus on Communications and Psychology. Now, he is gearing up for graduate studies in organizational communication and public relations.

Malik is more than a student—he is a mentor and leader. As a Site Coordinator for the Black Educator Alliance, he guides high school mentors and develops programming for elementary students, shaping future leaders in his community. From hosting STEM fairs to organizing trips to Washington, D.C., his work has expanded horizons and provided invaluable opportunities for young people.

His vision extends beyond the classroom. With entrepreneurial ambitions, he dreams of launching a podcast, rehabilitating Detroit homes to provide affordable housing, and leveraging his communication expertise to drive meaningful change. His desire to give back is at the heart of his journey—whether through mentorship or community initiatives, he is determined to make a lasting impact.

We are honored to help Malik take the next step in his journey.
