A Future in Medicine Rooted in Service
At Community Choice Foundation, we seek to recognize students who embody resilience, leadership, and a dedication to serving others. This year, we are honored to award a scholarship to Leah Lustig from Livonia, an exceptional individual whose story reflects these values in every way.
Born in South Korea and adopted at 10 months old, Leah found a home in Michigan—a place that offered her opportunities she might not have had otherwise. That sense of gratitude has fueled her commitment to giving back, and it’s evident in everything she does. An outstanding student at Stevenson High School, she has excelled academically and athletically, earning 11 varsity letters while actively participating in NHS, DECA, and leadership programs. Beyond her achievements, her true impact lies in the 1,000+ hours she has devoted to volunteering—mentoring elementary students, coaching a junior pom team, and serving as a role model for young girls in her community.
Her passion for service is deeply personal. Having suffered from a chronic condition since childhood, she understands the struggles of living with a persistent medical condition, and it has motivated her to pursue dermatology. Through dual enrollment, she explored different fields, ultimately confirming her calling in medicine. Now accepted to Michigan State University’s prestigious Lyman Briggs School, she will major in Human Biology, laying the foundation for her future as a physician. Her goal is simple yet profound: to practice medicine in Michigan—the place where she was given a chance at life—and help others facing challenges like those she has experienced.
It is our privilege to support Leah’s journey, knowing that her future in medicine will be one of compassion, excellence, and service.
