A Future Built on Compassion
At Community Choice Foundation, we recognize resilience, dedication, and a commitment to making a difference. Among this year’s applicants, Kelly Girard from Livonia stood out—not only for her academic ambitions but for the depth of her personal journey and her unwavering desire to serve others.
Growing up in a household overshadowed by addiction, Kelly experienced firsthand the toll substance abuse takes on families. Losing her father to an overdose reinforced her calling: she would dedicate her life to helping others who are struggling, ensuring that no one feels alone in their battle.
Despite life’s challenges, Kelly never lost sight of her dream to become a nurse. After earning a bachelor’s degree, working as a medical assistant, and caring for her growing family, she made the courageous decision to invest in herself. She is now completing her final courses at Schoolcraft College and preparing to enter Eastern Michigan University’s accelerated BSN program—her pathway to becoming an addictions nurse.
Her ambition isn’t just about building a career—it’s about breaking cycles.
She wants to be the helping hand for those who have no one, serving as an advocate for individuals battling addiction. To her, nursing is an opportunity to uplift, heal, and make lasting change.
