Meet Daniel Heil

2025 Scholarship Recipient

One of 26 awarded a Community Choice scholarship for leading with purpose.

A Life of Service, A Future of Discovery

At the Community Choice Foundation, “Giving Big” means more than financial support—it’s about dedicating time, skills, and heart to uplift others. Among this year’s applicants, Danile Heil stood out for his dedication to service and commitment to making a lasting impact.

Service is central to Daniel’s life. As a Comfort Keeper, he provides in-home care to individuals with disabilities and dementia; ensuring dignity, connection, and compassion. His work is about more than physical support—it’s about restoring joy and reminding people that small acts of kindness can make a big difference.

Beyond caregiving, Daniel is deeply invested in education and environmental advocacy. As a boat captain and expedition guide, he has led tours across Alaska, the Caribbean, and Central America, educating travelers about marine life and conservation. Daniel believes that understanding nature is the key to protecting it.

Now, Daniel, who hails from Traverse City, is taking his mission even further by pursuing a Marine Robotics Technology degree at Northwestern Michigan College. His future in oceanographic research will allow him to explore and safeguard marine ecosystems using remotely operated vehicles (ROVs). Through mentorship, conservation work, and advocacy for sustainable maritime practices, Daniel aims to protect the ocean for generations to come.

This scholarship is not just an investment in Daniel’s education—it’s an investment in a leader who will continue to “Give Big,” enriching lives and preserving our planet. We are honored to support his journey.

Our 2025 scholarship recipients are change makers in the making—each with a unique vision for how they’ll give back to their communities.
