In January, we began our journey to raise $100,000 to fund the Community Choice Foundation scholarship program. We called the initiative One Dollar. One Purpose. One Commitment to Giving. We invited our members, local businesses, and the public in general to partner with us as we climbed that tall fundraising hill in 12 months.
We knew of the generous nature of our members and sponsors; many have answered when we have asked in the past. We were not prepared for the generosity and kindness of so many.
When our team members reached out to members and asked for a one-dollar donation, many have not only obliged, they have gone above and beyond what we could have expected. Instead of one dollar, they have instead given one dollar every day for the rest of the year.
When we speak to a business member about a one-time gift, so many have countered with, “how about a recurring donation?”
Our “round down” initiative has also brought pleasant surprises and true altruism from members. For instance, a request of the 23 cents when a member cashed a checked for $55.23 has turned into a $5.23 donation. This has happened time and time again, and we can’t thank you enough.
As of May 3, we are proud to say that we have already made it to the half-way point of our goal after reaching $50,000.
We hoped that our program would strike a chord with our friends and neighbors. After all, the scholarship program is more than just a worthy cause − it is at the very heart of the core values of the credit union: Charitable. Committed. Credible. United.
Our program gives $100,000 annually to graduating high school seniors, those pursuing continuing education, and for skilled trade training. Our only ask is that scholars use this gift to make a difference in the Michigan economy.
While we’ve always had the giving bowls in select member centers, and our corporate partners have been there for us when we’ve called, this is the first year we’ve made it a point to reach out and ask the community for support. Being a 501C3 charitable organization, we felt it was important to raise the funds for the Foundation through a true grassroots effort.
And your response has humbled us.
We’re halfway to our goal, and we’ll continue working hard to make sure we make it to $100,000. We wanted to publicly acknowledge the support we’ve received and thank everyone who has participated in this fundraising effort.
