A Look Back at 2020

As we prepare to put the year 2020 behind us (sounds good, doesn’t it?), it’s always fun to look back and reminisce about the highlights of the past 12 months. It’s important to remember, there was good that came from 2020. At Community Choice, we proved to ourselves, and our members, that we could not only survive, we could thrive, through even the greatest challenges.

We served our members, local business owners, and our communities in ways that make us so proud. And we kept a thorough record of our achievements in Community Conversations. Here’s a look back at a few of the blogs we’re especially proud of.

Helping to keep you safe online

As you transitioned from a little to a lot of online shopping this year, it was especially important to us to be by your side answering questions and offering tips. We realized that for many of you, ordering everything from groceries to patio furniture was very new (and bizarre – did you ever think you’d order toilet paper?), and you thought that setting up a “digital wallet” is something only young people did with their fancy phones. As you now know, nothing could be further from the truth. We hope our easy-to-follow videos helped you make purchases with the tap of a finger as you binge-watched your Netflix show.

We posted two blogs this year that we hoped would help you shop safely online. You can find those blogs here: Click and Shop and Limit your Risk While Shopping Online.

Now that you’re aware of this information, stay vigilant! Remember, even the most innocent-looking email or text might be a trick. So, slow down, take a second look. Help your loved ones by reminding them not to click on anything they’re not expecting, especially if it’s from someone they don’t know.

Let’s keep helping our local businesses

The last several months have taken a toll on local small businesses. From shutdowns to limited capacities, your favorite restaurant, florist, bakery, insurance agent – everyone has felt the sting of COVID-19. We are so proud of our efforts to help our local businesses, and we made a point to remind our members that small businesses still need your help.

We posted a two-part series introducing a few of our local business owners. It allowed us to let you hear their voices and their fears as they struggled to support themselves and their employees. They allowed you to feel their tenacity and determination to keep their dreams alive. The blogs highlighted our efforts to help them through the federal Payroll Protection Program Loan process. Those blogs can be found here: Supporting Small Business and Supporting Small Business Part 2.

We also reminded you just how important your support of small businesses is to the makeup and health of our communities. You can find that blog at In the Middle of CommUnity, There’s U.”

Finding ways to help

This was certainly an unusual year for team members at Community Choice. When it came to “Give Big” charitable opportunities, we sought new ways to help. We went to work finding new avenues to serve the communities in which our members live and work. We volunteered virtually. We put on protective gear and cleaned up homes and gardens. We loaded trucks. We distributed food. We sewed blankets. We phoned our senior members. We donated candy at Halloween and toys at Christmastime. In short, we gave big, and we are proud of our efforts and so happy to help charities in need. You can read all about it here: Giving Big During October.

Keep checking Community Conversations. We’ll keep blogging about your communities, our products and services, and everything in between.
